ABOUT CAASA

:: OUR AIM

CAASA's aim is to serve, promote, watch over, advance and mutually protect the interest of the General and Commercial Aviation industry, and to act as a link between the industry and government, government agencies and other public bodies within the Southern African region.

:: OUR PURPOSE

CAASA's purpose is two-fold. Firstly it represents the interests of member companies and affliated Associations at local, national and regional levels. We provide a platform for all members of the commercial aviation industry to voice their concerns and participate in the affairs of the sector.

CAASA's second function is to support and promote the growth and well-being of a profitable general aviation industry in Southern Africa. CAASA believes that growth is essential for the industry's future welfare and to the future economy of the Southern African region. General aviation provides services both to industry and private individuals which are vitally important to the national economies of Southern Africa. Our task is to ensure that General Aviation's importance is fully understood and appreciated by the public and, most importantly, by local and central government.

:: OUR CONSTITUTION

The CAASA is a trade association and through its Memorandum and Articles of Association is governed by a Board made up of senior executives from our member companies, to whom the chief executive, CAASA staff and affiliates are responsible.

CAASA is responsible for providing secretarial and administrative support services to its seven affiliated associations. Each affiliated association has its own elected executive committee responsible for managing the activities of the respective affiliated association. These affiliated associations also provide a pool of expertise to assist CAASA with advice on specialist technical issues. The President of each affiliated association is represented on the CAASA Board. By bringing together like minds from within the membership, CAASA is able to draw on a wealth of knowledge, experience and talent to tackle any negotiations with government, aviation service providers or other stakeholder bodies. Consequently CAASA has evolved as the respected and effective lobbying force on behalf of Commercial and General Aviation.

:: MEMBERSHIP

The CAASA is an independent organisation which has steadily grown in its representation of general aviation operators and traders in Southern Africa. Members typically include non-scheduled operators, companies operating business aircraft, aircraft maintenance organisations, suppliers of aircraft and spares, aviation-related training organisations, companies supplying or supporting the industry and other providers in the general aviation sector. Non-members benefits from CAASA's activities, but the funding of the Association should be shared by the entire General Aviation industry, and not just a few who do not recognize their responsibility to the common goal. Each additional member strengthens the Association's bargaining power and its ability to carry out its task.

In a nutshell, CAASA does the following for its members:

  • Representation - CAASA sits on a wide range of committees & bodies to monitor & influence legislation and policies.
