Many in aviation know of Kev Storie from his time as the chairperson of SAHPA (where he is still involved), the GM of the Aeroclub of South Africa, or currently as the CEO of CAASA. This bio gives insight into what makes him tick as a devoted family man to his lovely wife, Dr Maryna Storie, and his daughter, Shana Skye.
He served operationally in the South African Parachute Regiment in his younger years. He travelled internationally, where he completed a life-changing solo motorcycle trip (unassisted and, yes, way before The Long Way Round by Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman, riding through central and eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa. There are many tales this man can share.
Before getting involved in aviation, he practically changed the poultry industry in KZN (when KZN supplied 80% of the broiler market), converting this critical sector from bell-drinking systems to modern nipple-drinking methods.
Upon his return to South Africa, following five years abroad, he took on a Directorship with Africa Blue (the KZN reseller of Autodesk systems), which, under his Sales directorship, drove their CAD solutions to become, arguably, theinnovative staples of the engineering and building information management industry, which remain to this day working with behemoths such as RBM, GUD and Mondi, to name only a few.
Aviation–wise, his accolades are numerous, and his involvement in many areas of aviation are notable. Sport–wise, he played competitive hockey for KZN, Natal Midlands and the Rangers in Scotland. Kevin has also completed many Duzi canoe marathons, participated in paragliding competitions, and continues to ride hard enduro, most recently competing in the Roof of Africa and the Impi.
An avid pilot and instructor, he remains actively involved in social flying as a hobbyist.
And to top it all off, Kevin is also a commissioned artist in his own right. A man with many a quiver in his weighty bow, his passion and commitment to everything he takes on should inspire us all.
